What Time Is It Mr. Fox?!

It's Blueberry time, of course!  =)

The opening day at the blueberry farm that we always go to was this past Tuesday.  We decided to venture out there today to pick our first berries of the season.  We were missing 3 of our pickers from last year's picking expedition so we didn't know how well we would end up doing.  Our oldest daughter Liz moved to Indiana and both of our boys have been at her house for the past two weeks.

Let me just say that when we left home it didn't feel too hot to go picking, after all, it was still only about 10:30 am.  We got out there and when we stepped out of the car we felt the heat swoop down on us like a giant bird....ugh...it was pretty hot there at the berry farm.  We walked over to get our buckets and one of the workers told us to follow her and she would take us to the spot where we would be picking.  We walked around the corner and a giant breeze caught us off guard....it was wonderful!  Yay, we thought, this won't be so bad after all!

Ummm....I think we thought too soon....

It was sooo hot out there and no breeze.  The breeze decided to only be along one side of the blueberry field....the side that was not our side. =(  Let me say this again....sunny, hot and humid...no breeze.  Chloe picked about 2 berries before the whining started.  Usually we can at least get her to just stand there and eat them and not worry about trying to fill up her bucket, but we couldn't even get her to do that.  It was pretty brutal out there....it was about 87 degrees but it felt more like 98----so says the National Weather Service.  Can I just say...."what were we thinking anyway"???  I sweated like I've never sweated before..... we were all soaking wet by the time we were done...ugh.

Just incase you were wondering.....we did survive.  ;)  We lasted about 45 minutes and the 4 of us picked almost 30 pounds of berries!  We are planning on heading back out there on Monday or Tuesday....hoping with all hope that we get a cold front Sunday night!
