But the sad fact is, it's far from over! Already the news has shifted on to other world and local events, and every once in a while you hear a blurb about Haiti and get a reminder that they are still suffering and just trying to survive each and every day.
It's going take a some time for the Haitian people to rebuild their lives...not weeks or months ...but years. This country was already very poor and now even many of those people that did have homes are left without places to live. Most have no way of earning money to put food on their table for their families let alone being able to rebuild their homes. Things are still terrifying for everyone there, they have lost homes, friends and families and are struggling every day just to survive.
Please consider helping these people. There are many great organizations that you can choose from to donate your time, goods or money to. Here are a couple of organizations that we would like to encourage you to support:
Haiti Foundation Against Poverty ---http://haitifoundation.com/
Doctors Without Borders ---www.doctorswithoutborders.org
Just in case you haven't heard this.....Congress passed a law to allow taxpayers who itemize deductions on their 2009 tax returns to qualify for a special tax relief provision for donations to Haiti. This means that all donations made prior to March 1, 2010, can be tax deductible for 2009!
Have a great day, but please remember those that are suffering...
I will leave you with this.....
